We all love watching TV, and we all have moments when we wish we could watch it quietly. Using headphones with a TV isn’t new, but wired headphones can be inconvenient, and not all TVs support wireless headphones from the get-go.
While of course, you could get a new TV, there are a few ways you can still enjoy your current one with some relative privacy. Here’s how you can connect wireless headphones to any TV without Bluetooth.

1. Get Dedicated Wireless Headphones
There are wireless headphones dedicated to this specific purpose, which will let you switch the audio from your TV out to headphones.
The way that these units work is that the headphones come with an audio transmitter.
This transmitter connects to the audio-out composite/component/3.5 mm audio jack at the back of your TV, and wirelessly streams the sound to the headphones.
If you want a no-frills solution to watching TV with wireless headphones, this is the way to go.

2. Use Wireless Adapters
The next most logical step is to get a wireless adapter that, in a way, adds Bluetooth to your TV.
Basically what these adapters do is they plug into the audio-out composite/component/3.5 mm audio jack. This is just like the wireless headphones we mentioned above.
However in this case, there’s a Bluetooth adapter at the end, which often needs to be powered, usually via USB.
The signal is converted into a wireless audio stream by this adapter, and you can use any Bluetooth headphones to capture this stream.
This is the best way to use a wireless adapter with a TV if you own a pair of Bluetooth headphones already.

3. Use an external device to route the audio
This is a rather complicated way to go about things, but works if you have one of these devices already. Examples are TV box devices like the Amazon Fire Stick or Gaming Consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
These devices will either come with Bluetooth, or have a way of connecting to a pair of headphones, relatively wirelessly.
For example, the Xbox One wireless controller has a 3.5″ headphone jack that you can plug wired headphones into. So you’re essentially creating a wireless link between your TV and headphones.
Any modern media device that connects to your TV will let you do something like this. Make sure to check online to figure out a way to make it happen!
